Boarding
Boarding procedure
Depending on the booking, the basic fare ticket (乗車券) and limited-express ticket (特急券) may be separate or combined. If they are separate, insert the applicable tickets together at the Shinkansen gate and take back every ticket the gate returns. When the train arrives, the doors will automatically open, allowing you to board, then find your seat as specified on your ticket. Find your seat as shown on your ticket. Numbered platform markings indicate where each car will stop. If you have a non-reserved ticket, use a non-reserved car and take any available seat. There is normally no airport-style baggage or ID check for standard paper tickets, but keep your ticket with you in case staff inspect it.
- Please be aware that boarding methods vary by route. On some routes you can board directly with the QR code you receive; on others you need to collect your physical tickets using the QR code before boarding. Instructions for your route will be provided in My Orders.

After boarding
During your ride in the Shinkansen, you may be asked to show your ticket for verification, so be sure to have your boarding ticket ready.
